Dewdrop Lens on Grass Blade in Taipei

by Robin Byers

One, perfect sphere of water rests atop a slender blade of meadow grass, magnifying the intricate green veins beneath its curved surface. The grass emerges from rough, gray-green lichen clinging to dark bark. Low, grazing light cuts across the foreground, illuminating suspended dust motes that drift in visible shafts against a deep, shadowed background. The water droplet acts as a natural lens, refracting the dim twilight glow into a bright focal point. Textures range from the smooth, taut skin of the droplet to the flaky, organic crust of the lichen. A faint reflection of the lichen pattern curves along the bottom edge of the sphere.
